After a long, illustrious Hollywood career, Robert Redford is calling its quits and unloading his beloved 10-acre wine country estate for a hefty $7 million. The retreat, known as Danza del Sol, is as idyllic and secluded as one can imagine. Let's step inside this tranquil paradise!
Built in 1983, the retreat sits on 10 acres of gated land atop a scenic knoll. With the ambiance featuring gardens, forest area and hiking trails, the estate seems naturally private. However, it was a mere minutes drive from Napa's idyllic St. Helena village.
The secluded compound, known as Danza del Sol, boasts a 5,225-square-foot main residence including eight rooms, three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, two distinct garages and a grand art studio. The Oscar-winning actor and wife Sibylle Szaggars bought the secluded hideaway in 2004, and have since revelled in the downright gorgeous property for more than a decade.
A winding driveway culminates with an elegant fountain which precedes the main entrance and the timeless European-style white stucco manor enveloped by privatizing trees.
Walk past the entrance, you will be greeted with a step-down lounge with a corner fireplace and an adjacent formal dining room. Next to the dining room sits an inviting and charming white kitchen which revolves around a central island.
Standing beside the windows, you'll catch sight of sweeping stunning valley views.
All spaces inside the house highlight idyllic views and elaborate touches. This tree trunk table adds a more natural feeling to the room.
Setting just off the kitchen you'll come to the family room, which boasts its oversized wood-burning fireplace as well as white-beamed ceilings.
There is a separate wing on the main floor which houses both a combination office-library and the master suite, which was clearly built with luxury in mind.
In the master suite, an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooks the trees and valley below. It also comes with a corner fireplace sitting area, a walk-in closet and an expansive bathroom.
So the couple can enjoy a soothing bath in the deep-soaking standalone tub or a sauna from the comfort of their room.
When it comes to outdoor space, Redford's home offers more. The family room opens out onto a dining terrace perched above a lower terrace with a heated swimming pool and a cabana.
Surrounded by all the greenery and the warm lights, the pool and the canaba exudes a sense of serenity and homey charm. To add privacy, the cabana also has curtains.
Danza del Sol offers many outdoor spaces to the couple, no matter whether they'd like to unwind, paint, sculpt, read or entertain friends.
High above the ground, there's an outdoor stone terrace. Dining outdoors with a couple of friends while appreciating the wine country views would make a best day.
One reason why Robert and his wife are enticed to the estate is because it has arcadian walking trails that lead to the Meadowood Resort, of which the couple are members.
In the backyard, you'll see a 907-square-foot detached art studio. It is highlighted by clear glass garage doors that allow for a maximum indoor-outdoor feel to the space even when the doors are shut.
Inside the unit, there is a full bathroom and an office nook primarily used by Szaggars; elsewhere on the property is a 450-square-foot workshop and a 900-square-foot detached garage and gym.
Robert is nearly 84 years old and is still hale and hearty. We guess he must have spent a lot of time doing his workout in his fully-equipped gym.
Sadly, Robert and his wife are saying goodbye to their sweet home, as they sold it to move to the Bay Area "to be closer to family." For what it's worth, the memories of walking down the wooden trails while holding each other's hands will last in their minds forever.
